Many fond memories of the Pioneer Inn and of watching Mr. Jawad riding with my neighbor. I used to ride turnback for my neighbor when he was working his cutting horse. I grew up with cowboys!

My dad bought me my first drink at the Pioneer Inn. I will never forget it. Thanks Mr. Jawad. You were an angel before and I’ll bet you’re a great one now. Prayers for his family & friends.

I remember going to the Pioneer Inn with my parents and grandparents on Sundays when I was a kid. I remember Mr. Jawad as a volunteer at John Muir talking with people who had heart bypass surgery. John had been through it and was living proof that people do recover, even though it seems like a long road to the patients. My dad was in the hospital recovering from surgery and John came in and told my dad that he’d be back out on the golf course in no time and to enjoy a big steak once in a great while after his recovery! John was a very nice man with an encouraging way about him. May God bless his family during this sad time.

My father remembers going there when it was John Jawads, and my grandfather remembers it back when it was Chubby Humbles! On a side note, that Jack Nicholson movie The Wild Ride is a fantastic piece of local history. My grandfather watched that movie with me, and he was giving a constant commentary about scenes. At the part with the motorcycle cop behind the Dana Estates sign, he explained that same cop gave him his first speeding ticket! The inside of the Concord Police station is neat as well, and my grandfather remembers the guy behind the counter in the liquor store as well! In two words, watch it!

RIP John Jawad. The Pioneer Inn had great steaks and food. At one time Jack Nicholson even shot some scenes there for The Wild Ride.

I knew John and have been friends of his family for most of my life. My condolences go out to his family and friends. May John rest in peace.
The Pioneer Inn was a great place to hang out. I went there many times as a child and have tons of fond memories. I can’t drive by and not think about what it used to be.

Very sorry to hear this. I built the bar/dance floor addition on the old Pioneer inn in 1985 for John. He was always very fair with me. It was a difficult project in that the new addition had to hold up the very old building in case of an earthquake. I had 90 days to complete it and finished it on the 90th day. John never once questioned if I would not make the deadline.

Who lives(d) in the Clayton Valley area and DIDN’T go to the Pioneer Inn? It’s as Clayton as the Clayton Club, and a wonderful memory for many thousands of us. John is up there, drinkin’ with Duke! R.I.P.
